Promise 5 - Youth Fund Their Own Projects
Hammock Pointe’s School of Promise, formed in January 1999, continues to be active. For the past two years the team has focused on service projects…. and is now funding them, too!

Youth and adults continue, to make visits on the first and third Saturday’s to Regents Park, a senior residence. These meetings engage seniors and youth in playing “Life Stories”, a game providing opportunities to share experiences. On some days they make room visits, take holiday gifts, create greeting cards, perform with musical instruments, or have sing-alongs.

The newest project is “Sending Sweet Messages” to soldiers. The service team sent Girl Scout Cookies, wrote a warm message and mailed out boxes to US Marine, Scott Bisuiti, formerly a member of Boca Raton’s Promise, who shared his cookies with fellow soldiers and the children he has come to know. Brian Pavlochuk, a former School of Promise team member also in the Marines, received cookies as did the soldier sons of Hammock Pointe teachers.

The youth recently designed a “backpack” to sell to fellow Hammock Pointe Elementary School students. Last year seat cushions were sold for use at the school’s spirit rallies. The funds from these two sales will be used to fund future service projects.
