Promise 4 - Summer Career Search
Boca Raton’s Promise is accepting registrations for its 5th annual Summer Career Explorers program –previously known as Summer Shadowing. Boca Raton’s Promise encourages parents and youth to team up to discuss careers and how to prepare for them. While one-on-one shadowing is still available for older youth, the program is now geared to provide group experiences for younger teens who benefit from interaction with peers during the visit. Hammock Pointe’s School of Promise, formed in January 1999, continues to be active. For the past two years the team has focused on service projects…. and is now funding them, too! For more information
Promise 5 - Service Council
Five members of Boca Raton’s Community Service Council met Alma Powell, Chairman of America’s Promise, when they attended the National Youth Action Summit in Washington D.C. last July (2005). Pictured above, left to right, are Brian Kirsch, Paulet Green (Advisor), Alma Powell, Demetri Morgan, Ross Eller, Molly Sharp and Dana Levine (front). The five returned home to help the Council spearhead two new Fall events. Both are intended to rally local youth organizations around community service-learning. The 12-member Service Council is co-sponsoring the community’s first Service Rally, “Learn, Lead & Serve” on September 10, and is planning the first Youth Health Fair to be held at West Boca High School on October 23, 2005. Promise 5 - School adopts "Senior Pals"
Hammock Pointe Elementary School’s Promise team chose this school year to focus on Promise 5, giving service. The youth and adults on the school’s promise team are making two visits a month to Regents Park, a senior living residence on Verde Trail. These intergenerational meetings provide opportunities for dialogue between the youth and the elder generation. The program is called “Senior Pals”. For additional information
