Boca Raton's Promise - The Alliance for Youth is dedicated to improving the lives of youth in the greater Boca Raton area by providing them with five fundamental resources needed to lead happy, healthy, and productive lives.

Promise 1
Caring Adults: "To create a Promise 1 Team of 3 people by 2/1/08.
Goals Recommended by Promise Teams, approved by Board
Promise 2
Safe places with structured activities for youth during non-school hours
1)Boca Raton’s Promise will secure funds to provide scholarships for a
minimum of 40 youth (ages 7-18) to attend spring and summer classes
and activities in greater Boca Raton. (40x$275=$11,000).
2)60 youth (ages 7-18) residing in greater Boca Raton will be provided
scholarships for two weeks of daily activities or classes during spring and
summer 2007.
3)30 youth will participate in Friday Friends after-school programs during
the 2007-08 school year. (Pending Sun-Sentinel grant).

Healthy Bodies & Healthy Minds
1)With leadership from the Mental Health Alliance, Boca Raton’s Promise
will plan, implement, and evaluate a pilot program of two levels
(elementary and middle) of “Breaking the Silence” in up to 4 schools in
Boca Raton by 9-15-2007.
2)Boca Raton’s Promise in cooperation with members of the Mental
Health Alliance will plan and implement a pilot STAGES program in one
Boca Raton high school by March 1, 2008.
3)Members of the Mental Health Alliance will coordinate with school
Promise Clubs and other associated groups to plan, implement and evaluate 4 youth forums between summer 2007 and spring 2008.
4)Boca Raton’s Promise will convene a planning meeting in March, 2007,
to plan an event to educate on the mental health needs of youth and
parents in greater Boca Raton.

Marketable Skills through Effective Education
1)Boca Raton’s Promise will implement/develop Promise Clubs of America
in two Boca Raton schools during the 2007-2008 school year (sponsored
by Sy Sperling).
2)Boca Raton Community Middle School will host the first Boca Raton
Lovewell Creative Arts Workshop for 20 students in April, 2007.
3)See High School PREP program included in Promise 5.
Promise 5
Opportunities to Serve
1) Two new high school Promise Clubs will be established with a minimum
of 20 members.
2) The CSC will collaborate in a health event with the Mental Health Task
Force and the Prevention Center in May, 2007 or later.
4)Boca Raton’s Promise Station will link with volunteens.com to provide a
directory of service opportunities for youth and to include news of the
Community Service Council.
5) A new High School Prep program will engage 4 Council members to
initiate 8th graders to high school and the new majors requirement before
May 30, 2007.
Objectives

Promise 3 – Healthy Bodies and Healthy Minds 1) Provide ongoing training for using the 5 Promises Checklist 2) Sponsor a Spring event to address youth issues, solutions 3) Develop partnerships with mental health professionals
Promise 4 - Effective Education and Marketable Skills 1) Expand Summer Shadowing program to Winter and Spring 2) Collect data, initiate study of effective career education 3) Establish Early Childhood Task Force
Promise 5 - Opportunities to Serve 1) Provide website and newsletters to 30 service sites 2) Sponsor series of service seminars to assist planners
