Service Leader Honored, Receives Internship
Boca Raton’s Promise has selected, Molly Sharp, “Teen Volunteer of the Year. Molly is completing grade 11 at North Broward Preparatory School where she is a member of the chorus and news editor of "The Eagles Eye", student newspaper.
Since becoming a member of Boca Raton’s Promise, Molly is credited with more than 500 hours in volunteer work with the Community Service Council where she held the position of “Service Leader” during the current year. Her participation in helping to keep the five promises made to youth has earned her local and national attention. She was one of five youth chosen to attend the National Youth Summit in 2005, and was selected by America’s Promise for membership in the Five Promises Ambassadors Network. Engaging with youth from across the nation provided a base for developing local service projects.
Molly oversees local service projects of the Service Council, which meets monthly. They h included the planting of Peace Gardens, performances of the Teen Talent Troupe, participation in the Friday Friends after-school program, reporting on “Senior Pals”, and presenting seven Youth Forums. As part of the Neighborhood Helpers project , Council members are currently painting a home in Watergate Estates. Molly’s leadership role requires her to prepare agenda and reports for each meeting.
In addition, Molly has served two years as a youth member on the Board of Directors of Boca Raton’s Promise and has recently been notified that she has been selected to receive a paid summer internship provided by the organization.
Molly is a strong supporter of the Mental Health Alliance and spoke at the inaugural meeting held at the Country Club at Boca Raton in 2005. The Council is now planning a Youth Health Fair.
