BREAKING THE SILENCE - an initiative to address stigma and how it impacts schools, families, employers, and especially, youth. This is done by providing resources and materials to assist stakeholders with opening dialogue to sensitize and educate specific populations. This may be done with the use of the DVD, Breaking The Silence, produced by FRiENDS of Boca Raton's Promise with assistance from the Palm Beach District Schools. The 22-minute film and discussion guide are available upon request (and free of charge) to community groups, schools, clubs, agencies, and associations. The Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County have declared 2012 the Year For Breaking The Silence.
COMMUNITY COALITION BUILDING - Grassroots support groups are in operation in three South County cities (Boca Raton, Delray Beach, and Boynton Beach) and throughout Palm Beach County through the Action Alliance for Mental Health.
FRiENDS - Friends currently exists in two forms. First implemented in 2005 at Coral Sunset Elementary School as a weekly after-school program to provide social and emotional experiences for students referred by the school-based teams. Activities include Art, Music, Photography and plenty of talk time. Friday FRiENDS is a weekly program initiated in 2008 at Boca Raton Community Middle School. The Community FRiENDS meet to socialize and find ways to express themselves in an intergenerational setting with professionals.
